FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Here are some of our frequently asked questions, if you can't find an answer for what you need here, feel free to contact us.
We’re UKSM! The UK’s first speedrunning charity event. Our project came about in early 2017, when during Awesome Games Done Quick, we realised there wasn’t a local event where UK-based speedrunners could get together and showcase their skills - let alone for charity. Wanting to rectify this, a small group of speedrunning fans and participants got together to plan a marathon similar to that of GDQ, and the rest is history.
The format of UKSM'18 consists of a gamer supported by contemporaries/friends on a sofa, aiming to complete a game or certain requirements within a game as quickly as possible - along with a few exceptions, such as the Brawlout showdown we’ll be hosting over the course of the event.
For charity! We’re not-for-profit, and the entire purpose of the event, aside from advancing the UK gaming scene, is to raise money for various charities. This year, it’s SpecialEffect. During the event, you’ll be able to fill out the donation form on our website, donate towards a particular ‘donation incentive’, and your message will likely be read out on stream, assuming it’s appropriate. For transparency’s sake, we’d like to point out that ticket sales will go towards covering the cost of the event, and whatever’s left over after everything is fully funded will go towards the charity. In future, we’ll be paying wages to our staff, but (as was the same case with 2017) 100% of the donations will be going towards the charity.
UKSM'18 will take place Friday the 17th of August 2018 at 09:00 until Sunday the 19th of August 2018 at 21:00.
UKSM18 will be held at the 2 Chance Street, London.
Our audience signup will open soon, stay tuned!
The entry fee is £12 for one day (friday, saturday or sunday) and £20 for the entire weekend.
Maybe at our next event. Speedrunning submissions are closed for UKSM'18.
You can still attend as a spectator at the event by buying a ticket here
or you can watch it online when UKSM'18 starts.
We have a Discord server dedicated to discussion of the event and speedrunning in general, the link to which is available on the home page. We suggest you keep @everyone notifications turned on (they’re not frequent) and we’ll let you know whenever new developments take place. If you don’t have Discord, that’s not a problem. Following our social links available on the home-page will keep you up to date. We’ll be streaming on Twitch, and uploading our VoDs onto YouTube.
You do? Good to hear! We’ll be announcing that on Discord, Twitter and Facebook whenever our submissions open. We’re a small team so are always looking for a few people to help out.
We’re primarily a speedrunning event, but we’re always looking for interesting new segments. These include but not limited to TAS runs, interviews and competitions (like our brawlout competition). Your submission will be judged in the same way our speedrun submissions will be (on entertainment value, repeatability, marathon-safety level and skill level).
Our rules can be read here, and are available on our Discord server in the #rules channel.
Thank you very much for your support and we hope you'll enjoy what we have in store!
