So...what's all this, then?

We are UKSM, the UK's first speedrunning charity event. Our project came about around three months ago, when during Awesome Games Done Quick 2017, we realised that there wasn't a local event where UK-based speedrunners could get together and showcase their skills - let alone for charity. Wanting to rectify this, a small group of British speedrunning fans and participants got together planning a similar marathon, and we've since gathered a lot of interest from runners nationwide.

What's the format of the event?

We're all huge fans of Games Done Quick, and have taken a lot of inspiration from them in terms of our format. For the uninitiated, however, the format consists of a 'runner' supported by contemporaries on a sofa, aiming to complete a game or certain requirements within a game as quickly as possible. There are a few deviations from this base formula, however - we're aiming to create more of a casual environment in our streams, and we won't be running all day; though that's mainly because we're not expecting to have enough runners to fill up an entire week without breaks on our first year.

For charity?

For charity. We're solely not-for-profit, and the entire purpose of the event (aside from jump-starting a UK speedrunning scene) is to raise money for various charities. This year, it's Médecins Sans Frontières, or Doctors Without Borders. You can donate for it here and enter a message! (The staff will choose messages to be read out live on stream)

Why do you need funds?

Even though we have a venue secured and entirely paid for, we're a small team made up of mainly students, and have a lot of additional costs to raise to help make the experience of UKSM even better. These additional costs come in the form of microphones, cameras, additional consoles, games and more. While us not meeting our goal isn't the end of the world, all donations towards helping get this event up and running are immensely appreciated and will go a long way - we aim to be as transparent with our finances as possible. We're solely non-profit, and any money that isn't going to our charity of choice, MSF, will be going into running the event - not anyone else's pocket. You can support us on Generosity here.

When is this taking place?

UKSM is happening from the 18th of August to the 20th of August, 2017.

Where is the event?

Our venue is Xtreme Gaming in Colchester, Essex, the UK's first console gaming centre, that's been in business for over a decade now. Don't worry if you can't make it though; we'll be streaming to multiple services, including Twitch, YouTube Gaming and Hitbox.

Are there any rules?

Yes! When attending UKSM at Xtreme Gaming in Colchester, you are obliged to follow our rules. You can review them here.

Thank you very much for your support and we hope you'll enjoy what we have in store!
